June petrol price hike on the cards but likely marginal says AA

Automobile Association's (AA) Layton Beard discusses the factors behind the impending increase in fuel prices.

Though he explains we face a 7 cent decrease in the price of petrol and a 9 cent increase in diesel prices, the new carbon tax will hike the overall costs, says Beard.

Come 5 June, when the price is adjusted, there will be this additional carbon tax which will be added to the fuel price - 9 cents in the case of petrol and 10 cents in the case of diesel.

But this picture will change by the end of the month, he says.

The exchange rate will change and international petroleum prices will change and we'll probably have a clearer picture towards the 27, 28 of May of exactly what the increase or decrease will be in June. But it is likely to only be marginal.
