Hikers to climb mountain to raise lupus awareness
A group of hikers called the Friends of Lupus Warriors are planning to hike near Rustig farm in Magaliesburg, to raise awareness around the condition.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue.
The hike, which will take place on 25 May, aims to gather 100 people to take part.
The organisation's secretary, Bismark Masango, shares details on the event.
The aim is to raise awareness as the Friends of Lupus Warriors, about this condition.Bismark Masango, Secretary - Friends of Lupus Warriors
It is quite serious and nobody knows how exactly it affects people and what is the best way to treat it. As we speak there is no treatment for it.Bismark Masango, Secretary - Friends of Lupus Warriors
It is a challenging hike. We will have marshals and team leaders who will be taking people up that mountain. People who are not really fit should not come through but if you feel like you are a little bit fit and can do some waking along three or five kilometres, there will be an escape route where you can escape at 9km.Bismark Masango, Secretary - Friends of Lupus Warriors
You are encouraged to wear purple on the day.
