Minister in the presidency Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma briefs media ahead of celebrations next week.

Government has implemented austerity measures ahead of the presidential inauguration ceremony next week.

The 2019 inauguration will be moving from the Union Buildings to Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane.

Minister in the Presidency Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma held a briefing on Thursday, saying the decision to host the event at a stadium is a cost-cutting measure.

She says the government will be cutting costs by at least R100m.

Eyewitness News reporter Robinson Nqola says the minister mentioned how nearly R240m was spent on the previous inauguration in 2014.

They say taking this celebration to the stadium will slash that cost to about 60%.
