It is reported that President Donald Trump has sought to put the brakes on a brewing confrontation with Iran.

Trump told the Acting Defence Secretary Patrick Shanahan that he does not want to go to war with Iran and his senior diplomats began searching for ways to defuse the tensions.

Speaking to Lester Kiewit, researcher at Afro-Middle East Centre Ebrahim Deen says the war brewing is a bit different.

We have a president in Donald Trump who is quite erratic so what we have seen is not just increasing sanctions as happened previously. We are also seeing more deployments.
