[LISTEN] A look at the changes political parties should make

The top three political parties have been reviewing their performance in last week's elections and are preparing to implement some changes.

Some of the changes include President Cyril Ramaphosa's plan to shrink his Cabinet, as well as a possible overhaul of branches and leadership within the Economic Freedom Fighters.

Giving her view on the streamlining of the Cabinet, South African Foreign Policy Initiative senior researcher Sanusha Naidoo says this would mean certain ministries would be amalgamated.

She adds that the challenge for the elected cabinet is the trade-offs that have to be made.

It is not just streamlining, it is streamlining ministries, it is also streamlining a bureaucracy within your ministry. The challenge for me is that when you start to do that, you are actually going to start taking away jobs.

Sanusha Naidoo, Senior researcher - South African Foreign Policy

Naido says the Democratic Alliance needs to be more precise about their policy.

With the affirmative question that they did not really deal with and the FF Plus taking votes from them, I think they now have a serious need to reflect and strategise in terms of getting in some of those voting constituencies that they want to get in terms of the young black voters.
