Advice from ex-SA rugby captains: Don't lose the fun element in sport
Jean de Villiers and John Smith are among the former Springbok captains taking part in the golf charity drive in the Cape winelands this weekend.
It marks the first time the BCX SuperSport Shootout is being held in the Western Cape.
De Villiers and Smith managed to fit in a chat with Africa Melane as they were getting ready to tee off.
I'm looking forward to some banter. Myself and Jean (de Villiers) are partnering up... we normally play against each other.John Smith, Former Springbok captain
We desperately want to win, but we're smart enough to know that it's not possible.John Smith, Former Springbok captain
De Villiers joked about getting stuck with Smith as a golfing partner.
I'm not pleased at all. I'm actually extremely disappointed... Like Smittie said, I think we'll have fantastic banter on the course.Jean de Villiers, Former Springbok captain
The two rugby legends agree on one thing though - keeping the fun element in sport.
De Villiers says it can also help to achieve a good result as a professional player, if you're having a good time.
Whether you are playing on a social basis like we are playing golf today or whether you are playing professional sport, at the end of the day you participate to have fun.Jean de Villiers, Former Springbok captain
Sometimes when you are professional you lose that fun element and it's important to keep that because if you do, then sometimes the results come easier as well.Jean de Villiers, Former Springbok captain
