Huawei users in SA told not to panic over Android ban

Don't panic!

That was the advice to Huawei users in South Africa on Monday following Google's decision to sever its business relationship with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer.

The global tech firm is suspending the transfer of all hardware and software between the two companies, including its Android smartphone operating system and apps.

But what does this mean for Huawei users in South Africa?

None of the handsets that are out here already or are in the stores already are going to be affected by the hardware changes, they'll only be affected by the software changes.

I think the software problem is a harder problem to solve in the immediate term... people are immediately going to be throwing away their Huawei devices, freaking out, phoning the call centres. That's a much more immediate problem, but the software you can just literally switch off. Once the handset is in someone's hands, it is what it is.
