Afro-Middle East Centre researcher Ebrahim Deen says it is safer in places closer to Cairo than those next to Sinai.

The Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) kicks off in Egypt on June 21.

Safety concerns have been raised in the wake of an attack on a tourist bus over the weekend.

The explosion had no fatalities‚ with 24 of the South Africans returning home on Monday.

South Africa have been drawn in Group D, the so-called "Group of Death" which includes Morocco, the Ivory Coast and Namibia.

Afro-Middle East Centre researcher Ebrahim Deen says there will be increased security, but the insurgency is raging strongly.

The situation in places especially closer to Cairo are a lot safer than those closer to the Sinai.
