David Makhura re-elected as Gauteng premier
Gauteng African National Congress (ANC) chairperson David Makhura has been re-elected as premier of the Gauteng.
Going head-to-head with the Democratic Alliance's (DA's) Solly Msimanga, Makhura retained his position after receiving 38 votes. Msimanga received 32 votes.
The ANC has 37 of the 73 seats in the Gauteng legislature, but the DA seemed determined to test the waters.
Speaking to Joanne Joseph on the Afternoon Drive Show, Eyewitness News reporter Nthakoana Ngatane says someone else voted for the ANC, either the African Christian Democratic Party or Inkatha Freedom Party.
If you look at the numbers, it is absolutely clear that the Economic Freedom Fighters voted for Msimanga.Nthakoana Ngatane, Reporter - Eyewitness News
He says the plan was never for him to win that vote, but it was to remind the ANC right from the beginning that that majority seat they have is going to be their downfall.Nthakoana Ngatane, Reporter - Eyewitness News
