Winde on a mission to slash Western Cape's 'mind-blowing' murder rate

Newly elected Western Cape premier Alan Winde has spoken of the urgency of bringing down the province's staggeringly high murder rate.

Just last month the 2018/19 State of Urban Safety in SA Report revealed Cape Town as the murder capital of the country.

It showed there were 69 reported murders per 100,000 Capetonians in 2017/2018, four times more than in Tshwane, the city with the lowest murder rate.

That's one of the records that we're not very proud of at all.

Alan Winde, Premier - Western Cape Government

One thousand eight hundred and seventy-five people were murdered in the Western Cape in the last 6 months. That's a mind-blowing number and we have to change that.

If we don't change that we can't get the economy to grow, we can't sort out education and health.
