Who is your ward Councillor?

According to the voting booth on News24 this morning, it seems people don’t know much about ward councillors or maybe they are just not interested.

The results showed that 58 percent of respondents don’t know their ward councillor while 24 percent didn’t even know they had one.

To get more information, we spoke to Paul Berkowitz Director at Hlaziya Solutions:

It’s a bit of a paradox. Your ward councillor is the only form of direct election in every South African election. Everything else is the direct proportional representation, party political on the national or provincial and even half of municipal councils. I don’t think the public is 100 percent to blame although we might have chosen to remain ignorant..

Paul Berkowitz, Director at Hlaziya Solution
