Integral African Conference: How to 'do human better'

How do you bring together people from different disciplines to accelerate conscious change in the world?

Well, if you're Paddy Pampallis you organise an Integral African Conference - she believes that the continent can make a unique contribution to "doing human better".

On Weekend Breakfast, Africa Melane explores this concept with the South African coaching pioneer who's the executive director of Integral Africa: The Coaching Centre.

With all the angst and the challenges that we're facing in South Africa we thought we would be in a position to bring some of the top leaders across industry, across higher education, medicine, government, politics, art, media, to come and speak at an inter-disciplinary conference.

Paddy Pampallis, Founder - Integral African Conference

We call it integral because it is inclusive, comprehensive and holistic - people who are thinking about how to do all these things differently.

Our work is in creating the conversations, bringing together people doing this work in various ways in South Africa and into Africa, so that we can create a think tank that can take our own best practises back into action and to do the work that needs to be done here in South Africa.

Paddy Pampallis, Founder - Integral African Conference

Pampallis says to meet the challenges facing the country it's necessary to speak a common language because we're all in it together.

The multi-disciplinary conference brings together Western and African thought leaders, because the two approaches can feed off each other.

We're trying to bring the African dialect into some of the Western theories and really feel the heartbeat and pulse of Africa's approach which we know can add hugely - the West kind of goes from the rational to find ways through whereas Africans who are really connected to their own being, come through from the ground, from the heart upwards.

Speakers include academic and spiritual explorer Vusi Vilakazi and Altron group chief executive Mteto Nyati.

The conference takes place at the Cradle of Humankind in Gauteng on 5 June.
