Mkhwebane has outstayed her welcome as Public Protector says Casac
The Congress of the People on Sunday called for the removal of "incompetent" Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane saying it was disturbed by the timing of reports released by Mkhwebane ' intended to divert the President [Cyril Ramaphosa] in appointing his Cabinet'.
On Friday, Mkhwebane released her report finding that Pravin Gordhan had acted improperly when he approved the early pension payout of former Sars deputy commissioner Ivan Pillay.
The Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution's (Casac) Lawson Naidoo says one of the tests of the new Parliament will be whether it takes seriously concerns regarding Mkwebhane's fitness for office.
I think there is certainly a groundswell of opinion now that Busisiwe Mkhwebane has outstayed her welcome as Public Protector. She is out of her depth.Lawson Naidoo, Executive secretary - Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (Casac)
Earlier this month the High Court set aside Mkhwebane's Estina Dairy Farm Project Report with Judge Ronel Tolmay saying "the failure of the Public Protector to execute her constitutional duties points either to a blatant disregard to comply with her constitutional duties and obligations, or a concerning lack of understanding of those duties and obligations."
Her judgments have been regularly overturned on review and many judges have commented on her lack of understanding of her role and mandate.Lawson Naidoo, Executive secretary - Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (Casac)
