Uber driver opera singer opens up about his dreams, sings Amazing Grace on air

Menzi Mngoma and Kim Davey, who posted his video on social media racking up over half a million views, chat to Kieno Kammies.

A video of a 27-year-old musicology graduate Menzi Mngoma singing opera to his Uber client got over half a million views.

The video was posted by Kim Davey who fell in love with Mngoma's voice and wanted to rally support for the talented young man.

He said to me he was an opera singer and I asked him if he wouldn't mind singing for me. He gladly obliged and I was amazed.

The response has been phenomenal, I can't believe the number of shares, likes and love that Menzi has got.

Mngoma says it is difficult to get exposure in South Africa as an opera singer. He says he became an Uber driver to earn a living.

It's due to life circumstances that I am here. I had to look for something and keep myself busy so that I can get an earning.
