How hard will it be to fill those positions? The answer is ‘very hard’… It’s a special kind of person; it’s not for everybody…

Andrew Woodburn, MD - Amrop Woodburn Mann

Last week on Wednesday South African Airways (SAA) CEO Vuyani Jarana resigned.

His resignation came less than a week after Eskom CEO Phakamani Hadebe did the same.

It's quite clear that both Eskom and SAA CEO resignations are going to put a big dent in President Ramaphosa's promises, locally and globally.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Andrew Woodburn, Managing Director at Amrop Woodburn Mann.

Woodburn discussed what is likely to go into recruiting new CEOs for the two beleaguered state-owned companies, and how hard it will be to find sound Chief Executives to replace Jarana and Hadebe.

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and scroll down for more quotes from it).

We have in South Africa a number of executives who love nothing more than a challenge…

The washing is on the line. Nothing is hidden… You understand you’re in a hole…

Andrew Woodburn, MD - Amrop Woodburn Mann

There will be many ‘no thank yous’ and giggles…

Andrew Woodburn, MD - Amrop Woodburn Mann

Notice periods at this level can stretch to 12 months… Boards should be steeling themselves…

Andrew Woodburn, MD - Amrop Woodburn Mann

The key is deep experience… an individual… who can talk truth to power… You’ve got to get the financials right. You’ve got to get the operations right…

Andrew Woodburn, MD - Amrop Woodburn Mann
