Veteran journalist and fighter for media freedom Raymond Louw passes away at 93

Journalist Anton Harber talks about how he devoted himself with steadfastness and energy to freedom of expression.

Veteran journalist Raymond Louw has passed away at the age of 93.

The multi-award winning journalist kicked off his career in 1946 when he joined the Rand Daily Mail.

Wits University Caxton Professor of Journalism Professor Anton Harber says Louw was a fighter for media freedom.

After seventy years in South Africa journalism, and having being the most steady consistent principled soldier for media freedom he very sadly passed away at the age of 93 this morning.

On his retirement, he devoted himself to with unbelievable steadfastness and energy to media freedom issues and journalism issues.

He really was the most consistent supporter. He took on the apartheid government whenever it messed with journalists and media freedom. he took on the post-apartheid government as well.
