Karima Brown wins case against EFF

The South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has ruled in favour of journalist Karima Brown.

The court found that the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) contravened the electoral code and should pay costs.

After receiving death and rape threats following the publication of her cellphone number on social media by EFF leader Julius Malema, Brown took Malema to court.

To discuss the recent court losses by the EFF, Nickolaus Bauer on the Xolani Gwala Show chats to constitutional expert Phephelaphi Dube.

In the latest legal developments regarding the EFF, they have also been ordered to pay an amount to AfriForum and the Trevor Manuel. The most recent events would not appear to be in favour of the party.

She says the court has distinguished the legal side of things and the political side of things.

Political parties yield tremendous power and that power needs to be used responsibly. So while some utterances may land favourably in some sectors in South Africa; these utterances must still be in line with what the Constitution demands.
