The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) chief audit executive Thami Zikode survived an assassination attempt over the weekend.
The police say the man who has been arrested will only appear in court after he recovers from gunshot wounds.
According to the police, the getaway car used when four suspects shot at Zikode outside his house on Friday was recovered along with the firearms used.
Ray White speaks to Media Monitoring Africa director William Bird about the assassination attempt.
A lot of people still have a lot to lose and the last thing they want is to be held accountable for any of their actions. It was in December 2017 when we saw the head of legal affairs assassinated as well. And this is the latest attempt on a person who is there to clearly clean up a lot of things that are going wrong. The assassination attempt is a profoundly disturbing thing and we hope the police will do their job.— William Bird, Director - Media Monitoring Africa
He adds that a number of senior members of the public broadcaster have had their lives threatened in the past year, and he hopes the police will do their job and arrest the perpetrators.
These attempts are clearly trying to stop people from revealing things that would harm them.— William Bird, Director - Media Monitoring Africa
