Vicki Momberg loses yet another legal team, represents herself in court

Convicted racist Vicki Momberg has represented herself in the Johannesburg High Court after losing yet another legal representative.

Momberg is appealing her conviction and a two-year sentence.

This is the sixth time she has had a breakdown in her relationship with her lawyers. Momberg was found guilty of four counts of crimen injuria for using the K word 48 times, racially abusing a police officer in 2016.

Eyewitness News reporter Kgomotso Modise says the fallout between her and her lawyers occurred during her court appearance.

She was abandoned by another lawyer because of her behaviour in court. The court started with both lawyers expected to bring their arguments and it was meant to take 45 minutes max, however, Momberg then brought forward a complaint about the media which took today's proceeding in a whole different direction.

She said some media houses had declared that she was convicted before she was. She wanted the court to rule that the media should not film her but the court did not rule in her favour. She was upset about that and expected her lawyers to argue that matter and that is when the fallout began and she decided to represent herself.

She did try to get her legal team back but one of her lawyers said that there had been a breakdown in lawyer client-relationship and that he could not continue to represent her.
