What can be done to tackle homelessness in Cape Town?
The Western Cape government has released its official statistics on the number of homeless people living in the Mother City.
In the greater Cape Town area, the number is approaching 5 000, while there are said to be more than 700 people living in the central business district (CBD).
Hassan Khan is the CEO of Haven Night Shelters and says he believes the numbers provided by the government have been inflated.

Hassan says it's important to draw a distinction between those people who are in shelters and those who are sleeping rough on the streets.
He adds that our tolerance for people living on the pavements has increased in recent years.
