Smart Water Meter helps Cape Town school save thousands in water bill
Bridgiot school operations manager Philip Burhmann explains how the Dropula Smart Water Meter system detected a costly and wasteful leak at Rhenish Girls High School in Cape Town.
The Dropula Smart Water Meter has helped many schools across the western Cape reduce costs related to water by allowing consumers to track and manage their water consumption in real time.
According to Burhmann, the device helped track an underground leak that's been wasting water and exacerbating the school's water bill.
Sometimes, by the time you see it the damage is already at a catastrophic level and with underground leaks, there are instances where it goes through sewage pipes and it is lost for months.Philip Burhmann, School operations manager - Bridgiot
The school ended up losing about R9000 in water for the period of the leak as opposed to what could've been R21 000 if it had been left unattended.Philip Burhmann, School operations manager - Bridgiot
What happens with these leaks is that it doesn't stay at the same flow rate, it often gets worse and worse.Philip Burhmann, School operations manager - Bridgiot
