Eyewitness News reporter Edwin Ntshidi says the leaders of the march say people living in those houses are not even from Alex.

Residents of Alexandra have embarked on a march to the City of Johannesburg offices in Sandton to demand better services.

The [Red Ants](http://Eusebius McKaiser puts the Red Ants under a microscope) demolished over 80 houses in the township in May, leaving scores of people homeless.

The City of Johannesburg has since committed to rebuilding those structures.

Speaking to Clement Manyathela on the Xolani Gwala Show, Eyewitness News reporter Edwin Ntshidi says the march caused chaos in term of traffic.

During the march, they stopped at every corner and at some stage, they almost clashed with the cops because they wanted to go directly Katherine street into the Mandela square. However, the police were quick to stop down.

I have been speaking to the leaders of the march, they say Mashaba went to Alex and promised the people whose houses were demolished by the Red Ants that he will come and rebuild them.

Edwin Ntshidi, reporter - Eyewitness News

They are saying they will not allow Mashaba to build those houses because most of the people living in those houses are not even from Alex.

Meanwhile, Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Lebogang Maile says the inter-ministerial committee has been working behind the scenes to solve the Alex challenges.

At an appropriate time, we will be able to respond and say where have we been able to allocate land.

Lebogang Maile, Gauteng MEC - Human Settlements

I do not want to pre-empt the outcome of the announcement.
