Western Cape traffic chief Kenny Africa explains what you should do if you're the first responder at the scene of an accident.

Motorists are being urged not to pull over at the scene of road collisions unless absolutely necessary.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa says well-meaning members of the public can often be more of a hindrance than a help at the scene of a crash.

Africa says where it's clear officials and paramedics are already on scene, we should leave the professionals to it

If you're not medical rescue or a doctor do not stop at those scenes.

Kenny Africa, Traffic chief - Western Cape

He says if you are the first responder to a road collision, you should be prepared for the worst.

Unfortunately, the bodies won't be covered until such time as the medical rescue personnel arrives.

Kenny Africa, Traffic chief - Western Cape

Information on what to you if you are the first to arrive at the scene of an accident is available on the Arrive Alive website.
