A municipal council meeting in Oudtshoorn descended into chaos earlier this week.
It is reported that the council was not able to pass its 2015/16 budget before midnight on Tuesday, which is a violation of the Municipal Finance Management Act.
The National Department of Co-operative Governance and the Western Cape Local Government Department had to step in again to help resolve issues in Oudtshoorn.
We speak to Hannes Visser Editor, Oudsthoorn Courant to explain the current situation in Oudsthoorn:
In 2013 five ANC Councillors resigned their posts and they joined the DA. That was followed by Bi-elections in August 2013 which the DA won. But since August the DA hasn’t been able to rule the town because they’ve been a whole lot of legal issues and technical issues which have been preventing them from taking over the town ….— Hannes Visser Editor, Oudsthoorn Courant
According to Visser, the Oudtshoorn municipal speaker, John Stoffels resigned earlier today.
