Has Boris Johnson scuppered his chances for a go at the UK's top job?

He's the front-runner to become Britain's next prime minister, but could a domestic altercation at the weekend put an end to Boris Johnson's ambitions?

Police were called to the Conservative politician's London home on Friday morning after neighbours reported hearing screaming, shouting and banging.

Johnson lives at the property with his girlfriend, ex-Tory spin doctor Carrie Symonds.

Neighbours say they were concerned for her safety.

Johnson has so far refused to speak about the incident, repeatedly ducking questions from journalists.

EWN UK correspondent Gavin Grey thinks these refusals are denting Johnson's chances at becoming PM, given the demographic of Conservative party members.

They're a fairly conservative, middle-of-the-road lot. I think they will be infuriated by this spat.

If his girlfriend is to move into Number 10 Downing Street with him if he becomes PM, can you really have a couple who are arguing and rowing in a public senior office?

Grey says Johnson is wise to avoid speaking publicly on the issue, given his rather gaff-prone past.

If he just does nothing he'll probably win it; if he makes mistakes and starts giving lots of interviews, he could make a mistake that could see him lose it.

Johnson's leadership rival Jeremy Hunt has said while he is not interested in his challenger's private life he would encourage Johnson to address the issue.
