With the Western Cape government estimating that there are around 5 000 homeless people in the greater Cape Town area, one charity is doing what it can to restore dignity to that community.
Souper Troopers was started five years ago after its founder Kerry Hoffman spent a day sharing soup and sandwiches with people living on the street.
From that day of spending two hours with people who lived on the streets I just couldn't not come back the next month.— Kerry Hoffman, Manager - Souper Troopers
These days Souper Troopers holds regular gatherings together with volunteers, 'both homeless and homefull.'
It's a very human-based organisation.— Kerry Hoffman, Manager - Souper Troopers
The organisation invites homeless guests to attend month;y 'socials' where they can enjoy food, music and pop-up clothing shops, birthday celebrations and even haircuts.
These socials just became this transformative space.— Kerry Hoffman, Manager - Souper Troopers
