EWN reporter Kaylynn Palm says this is the third entanglement and second death as a result of fishery lines.

After a humpback whale carcass was found floating about 500m off Sunny Cove on Wednesday, the City of Cape Town is calling on Forestry and Fisheries and Environmental Affairs Minister Barbara Creecy to place a moratorium on the exploratory octopus permit.

Read: 'Watching the whale choke and die on the ropes was horrific'

To discuss this issue, Zain Johnson on Lunch with Pippa Hudson chats to Eye Witness News reporter Kaylynn Palm.

Yesterday, city officials retrieved the carcass, saying the whale became entangled in an octopus fishery line and drowned.

Kaylynn Palm, Reporter - EWN

The City of Cape Town, as well as the community, has called on the national department to consider suspending the permit for octopus fishing, she says.

She adds that this is the third whale entanglement and second death as a result of octopus fishery lines in the past two weeks.
