The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviews Edward Kieswetter, Commissioner at the South African Revenue Service (Sars).

We’ve had a few early morning glitches… We’re off to a good start… So far, we’ve had a positive response…

Edward Kieswetter, Commissioner - South African Revenue Service

Tax season officially began on Monday (1 July) for taxpayers who file electronically.

The South African Revenue Service (Sars) has refreshed eFiling to simplify navigation.

You have until 4 December 2019 if you’re using eFiling.

If you need to file at a Sars branch, you have until 31 October 2019.

Provisional taxpayers using eFiling have until the end of January 2020.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Edward Kieswetter, Commissioner at the South African Revenue Service (Sars).

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and scroll down for more quotes from it).

We work hard to make it easy for honest taxpayers to file… and make it hard for dishonest taxpayers to get away with it…

Edward Kieswetter, Commissioner - South African Revenue Service

We have enough information about taxpayers… We’re fairly confident we can assess you without you having to submit [if you earn below R500 000 per year] …

Edward Kieswetter, Commissioner - South African Revenue Service

There’s been a massive failure… at Sars… deliberately engineered… When the spirits of people break… those things are harder to fix… the turnaround at Sars has begun… but it’s going to be a long, hard haul…

Edward Kieswetter, Commissioner - South African Revenue Service
