US government watchdog report confirms inhumane conditions in migrant centres

The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General released shocking facts and photos from 5 Rio Grande centres. This confirms reports from Democrats which have been downplayed up to now by the Trump government.

Inspectors visited five centres in the area on the southern-most tip of Texas and reported children not receiving hot meals, people only having wet wipes to clean themselves, and men being kept in standing-only rooms for a week.

The report states that 826 of the 2,669 children detained at the facilities were held longer than 72 hours, a violation of a court ruling

The New York Times published the OIG's report entitled Management alert - DHS needs to address dangerous overcrowding and prolonged detention of children and adults in the Rio Grande Valley. Read the report here.
