There is a massive amount of illegal electricity and water connections in Roodepoort says the City of Johannesberg.
The City of Joburg Infrastructure Protection Unit, the South African Police Service (Saps), City Power, Joburg Water, and Joburg Road Agency on Tuesday visited Matolesville in Roodepoort to stop illegal electricity and water connections in the area.
To discuss these efforts, Clement Manyathela on the Xolani Gwala Show chats to City spokesperson Virgil James.
City officials are in Matolesville in Roodepoort where we are experiencing a huge problem with illegal water connections and power connections. This crackdown is about illegal mining that is taking place in that area.— Virgil James, Spokesperson - City of Joburg
Officials have disconnected a number of illegal water connections, he says.
We have found over 30 Pikitup bins that were stolen from residents and used to store precious sand with gold that was dug up. They need water to process the gold and connect illegally. There are a lot of illegal connections, and this contributes to water wastage.— Virgil James, Spokesperson - City of Joburg
