'The community say 530 toilets were delivered, they are owed over a thousand'
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has been conducting an oversight inspection at the R1.9bn chemical tender toilets in Tembisa on Thursday.
An amaBhungane investigation has revealed that the Ekurhuleni metro spent that amount of money on the tender over three financial years from 2017 to 2019.
Ekhurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina on Wednesday told the Xolani Gwala Show that there was nothing untoward about the tender and that the toilets had been delivered.
Clement Manyathela chats to DA Ekurhuleni human settlements and co-operative governance and traditional affairs shadow MMC Kate Lorimer.
We have found that there are certainly some toilets there, this is a settlement that has been there for 27 years. The community say that about 530 toilets have been delivered and yet they are owed over a thousand.Kate Lorimer, DA Ekurhuleni shadow MMC - Human settlements and co-operative governance and traditional affairs
She says the question is where are the rest of the toilets?
When you have 20 people using one toilet and it is being emptied once a week, instead of twice a week, you are going to have a problem. There is a definite health issue there and clearly the contractors are not fulfilling their contract.Kate Lorimer, DA Ekurhuleni shadow MMC - Human settlements and co-operative governance and traditional affairs
