'Brownies and Downies' couple reunited, ready to expand their vision

Wendy Vermeulen is delighted to be back in South Africa and reunited with her husband and co-founder of Brownies and Downies Coffee Shop, an inspiring store that employs those with Downs Syndrome.

It was crazy, crying, and some of Wade's family was also there, so that was great.

Wendy says the home affairs issues are not yet completely resolved.

They let me into the country but that does not mean that you have a visa straight away.

She says the new law passed in the Constitutional Court two weeks ago, that when you are married to a South African, you do not have to go back to your original country in order to reapply for a visa.

She is pleased she no longer has to return to the Netherlands but does need to reapply for her visa and this is in process.

She will eventually apply for permanent residency, she explains.

their dream is to take the concept nationwide.

But as yet, the shop is not entirely self-sustaining at present so they are trying to sell the brownies more broadly.

We want to use all the donations we do get in to open another shop.
