Reverend Christopher Mathebula says religious leaders must be accountable and the law must take its cause.

Chairperson of the People Matter Foundation reverend Christopher Mathebula says the state of leadership in the country has deteriorated.

Speaking to Clement Manyathela on the Xolani Gwala show, Mathebula says leaders must go back to basics and better the lives of people.

He says they have established the People Matter Foundation to help leaders in business, politics and religion to be better leaders.

When you are a leader, you don't step into a position for yourself. Unfortunately, when I look around people, what people are doing in the role of leadership, it is more about themselves; it has nothing to do with the people.

Revered Christopher Mathebula, Chairperson - People Matter Foundation

Mathebula says everyone, no matter their title in the community, must be held accountable.

We must never take a side if there are religious leaders who are not leading correctly. I strongly believe we've got laws in this country and the law must take its cause.

Revered Christopher Mathebula, Chairperson - People Matter Foundation

We want to take people back to the basics to say 'Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu'. We can't keep on collecting, looting and squandering what we have in this country.

Revered Christopher Mathebula, Chairperson - People Matter Foundation

The organisation has organised a leadership talk with Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, who has been advocating for better principles and integrity among leaders.
