Spy tapes saga: NPA blames it all on McCarthy

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) filed its heads of arguments on an ongoing attempt by the Democratic Alliance (DA) to have the withdrawn fraud and corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma reinstated.

At the time when President Jacob Zuma was charged with corruption, the NPA says the then Scorpions boss; Leonard McCarthy saw his role as inextricably linked to protecting and advancing the interests of then President Thabo Mbeki.

Eye Witness News, Stephen Grootes reports:

I think we have known for some time that the NPA was going to hang all this on Leonard McCarthy. We knew this back in 2009, in fact that’s what was going to be their strategy. They say that he at all times was ready to manipulate things to help Thabo Mbeki by delaying the prosecution of Zuma until after the Polokwane conference
