Free app helps calculate child maintenance

One of the biggest issues for people during a divorce settlement is the discussion regarding child maintenance. The Mediation Academy has created an online app which aims to help solve this.

The purpose of the maintenance calculator is to produce documents which the courts are able to use when issuing maintenance orders.

The app's simple format makes it easier for 3rd Parties, as well as the court-appointed maintenance officers.

Kieno Kammies talks to Barry Greyvenstein, co-founder of the Mediation Academy, about their new zero math maintenance calculator, aimed at reducing the number of maintenance defaulters in South Africa.

We want to get the parents around the table, we want to get the parents talking.

He says it helps to get to the root cause of why a parent is not paying maintenance.

The app is an easy way of doing a very complex calculation.

It involves adding inputs such as each household's total spend, and the app then calculates what percentage of those expenses are due to the child, he says.

It helps find common ground to find consensus, he explains.
