Ndlovu Youth Choir 'Waka Waka' performance wows America’s Got Talent judges

A local choir from the rural parts of Limpopo called the Ndlovu Youth Choir is representing South Africa in the US.

The choir recently moved America’s Got Talent (AGT) judges to tears, leaving audiences with goosebumps after their incredible performance.

Now the choir is set to hit the stage in the live shows.

Refilwe Moloto chats to the choir director Ralf Schmitt about this achievement.

I am the conductor of the choir and I am the man lucky enough to work with these amazing young singers. In the AGT competition, we went through the first round where we sang _My African Dream. _I stood next to Simon Cowell and all the comments he said to us have been very complimentary. He has been fantastic towards us.

Ralf Schmitt, Choir director - Ndlovu Youth Choir

He says the choir went through to the judge cuts where four groups of 36 contestants were narrowed down to six in each of the groups.

Now we are through to the live rounds and are going to the quarterfinals. We go back to the States to compete and depending on where we get in the competition, we are there for up to six weeks. We are honoured that we can represent the South African choral community in the world stage.

Ralf Schmitt, Choir director - Ndlovu Youth Choir

Schmitt says unfortunately, only the American audience is allowed to vote in the live shows.
