Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane on Friday released her report on the R500,000 donation by Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson to President Cyril Ramaphosa's 2017 African National Congress presidential campaign.
She found that Ramaphosa had deliberately misled Parliament
The Presidency released a statement saying it is "unfortunate" that Mkhwebane seemingly did not "give due consideration" to Ramaphosa's response to her enquiries before reaching her findings in the Bosasa matter.
John Maytham spoke to News24 editor-in-chief Adriaan Basson to unpack this.
Ramapahosa is in a spot of bother here because of the findings against him by Busisiwe Mkhwebane. As much as one can discuss the political motivations behind the timing of the findings while Jacob Zuma is on the stand at the Zondo Commission, just from a cursory reading of her report, he's got questions to answer.— Adriaan Basson, Editor-in-chief - News24
It is really very heavy political times... In hindsight, Ramaphosa may have handled this issue very badly around the donation from Bosasa. I would certainly argue very strongly that his campaign should never have asked Bosasa for a donation, knowing what we know about this company for the past 13 years.— Adriaan Basson, Editor-in-chief - News24
