The Disktjie boots are designed to withstand gravel pitches.

Nineteen-year-old student Musa Maluleka says he had saved money since grade one before he decided to start his own business.

He had reached a savings of R 60,000 by his matric year and saved his scholarship allowance when he got into the business of making a unique set of soccer boots for young players that would withstand gravel pitches in townships.

He says the brand, Disktjie, is still young but they have received orders as far as Congo.

I didn't have an idea [of the amount], I was just saving it. We came to a point in matric where we had calculate how much the money was from primary right through to high school.

Musa Maluleka, Founder of Disktjie

Fortunately enough I was able to get a scholarship and they also gave me an allowance I saved up until the end of last year until I was able to get enough money to start my business.

Musa Maluleka, Founder of Disktjie

Last year when I realised I could potentially have enough money to make a few soccer boots, I started researching a factory that could make soccer boots for me. Eventually, I found it. We made this design... we made it quite durable to play on soccer pitches but we are still working on a solution to perfect it.
