I was threatened with a tyre and petrol - Redi Tlhabi

Journalist and former radio presenter Redi Tlhabi says she has received death threats following former president Jacob Zuma's testimony at the state capture commission of inquiry.

Zuma told the commission that Tlhabi was one of the individuals who had been trying to defame him, including branding him a rapist.

Tlhabi has applied to the commission to give evidence and also cross-examine Zuma on the allegations.

Speaking to Eusebius McKaiser, Tlhabi says even her children have been threatened.

I have screenshots of people who actually threatened my children and me. I was threatened with death, people said I deserve the tyre and petrol. My husband and kids were called all sorts of names. Somebody said I must watch my children.

She says Zuma's accusations against her cannot be taken lightly.

I realised these cannot be dismissed as delusions of a former head of state because, number one, he is a former head of state and what comes out of his mouth is significant.

Secondly, people are busy on social media asking why do I bother. I bother precisely because if the commission is to restore its dignity, then it is very important that the content and the matters that it deals with are of a serious nature.

Redi Tlhabi, Journalist and author

A former head of state thought I was so important that I ought to be located within the deliberations of the commission. If somebody can tell a brazen lie under oath, then it is appropriate to question what else is he lying about.

It is bigger than defamation, it is not defamation. He accused me of getting information to foreign sources and dark forces in order to bring him down. It is a very serious accusation.

Tlhabi further says she has been approached by eight filmmakers to turn her book Khwezi into a movie.

I was approached by various filmmakers and ultimately I sold the film rights to a local filmmaker. And there is no film as of now.
