After just a couple of days of reporting that there are fruitful talks between government and the taxi operators in Mamelodi, John Robbie received a call this morning that taxis in Mamelodi are on strike, leaving commuters stranded.

Earlier this week, EWN reporter, Govan Whittles spoke to Stephen Grootes on the Midday Report about the latest with regards to the conflict between taxi operators and Autopax buses in Mamelodi - which seems to be stable at the moment.

Tshwane Mayor, Kgosientso Ramakgopa spoke to John Robbie recently about the meeting level delegation meeting involving the Mayor, MEC Ismail Vadi, Gauteng Premier David Makhura and the taxi industry that was held yesterday in hopes to come up with a solution for the situation to return to normal.
Mayor Ramakgopa assured listeners that the situation was going smoothly but that they are still monotoring the situation to ensure that the public is safe. He said that there is no undertaking that taxi operators would get routes when Putco pulled out. However says that government has a plan in place to reach a compromise and committed to open communication with the taxi operators.
