Mitchells Plain

Lester Kiewit speaks to Mitchells Plain CPF 's Abie Isaacs and Saajidah Solomon. the mom of 6-year-old shooting victim Adnaan.

Ten people have been shot in gang-infested suburbs across the Cape over the weekend. Of the 10, two were killed and two others were children aged six and 16-years-old. Five of the victims were from Mitchells Plain while the other incidents occurred in Manenberg, Elsies River and Lavender Hill.

No arrests had been made in any of the cases.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) was deployed in Cape Town more then a week ago to help police curb these types of incidents.

Lester Kiewit speaks to Abie Isaacs from Mitchells Plain CPF and Saajidah Solomon, the mother of 6-year-old Adnaan who was shot in Beacon Valley, Mitchell's Plain on Saturday morning.

Isaacs says more needs to be done. He describes the SANDF presence in communities like that of 'tourists'.

Last week we had the opportunity to have the defence force here and they were only here for three hours and then they are out.

They are currently not hitting the correct targets.

Mom Saajidah Solomon speaks to Lester from Red Cross Children's Hospital. In the background, the machines around Adnaan's bed are beeping and she says her young son is in a lot of pain. Adnaan apparently witnessed a gang shooting three weeks ago which was traumatic, only to be shot himself this past weekend while playing outside his grandmother's house.

He was very anxious about it and his chest was tight because he was stressed...And now whenever he is awake he is very anxious because he is traumatised.

She is relieved that doctors say Adnaan will pull through, and says her only concern is for her son.
