'Ingonyama Trust is meant to benefit its beneficiaries and not the king'
Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini continues to play down the recommendations made by the Presidency Advisory Panel on Land Reform.
Zwelithini, over the weekend, vowed to defend the Ingonyama Trust Fund, following the panel's proposal to scrap the Trust and place it under the control of local leadership.
To discuss Zwelithini's stance, Bongani Bingwa chats to Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (Casac) executive secretary Lawson Naidoo.
What is clear is that the Auditor General has for years complained about the opaque financial records that have been kept by the trust. A trust is established for the benefit of its beneficiaries and not the king. The beneficiaries are the people who reside on the land. The trust has provided no evidence of how any of the money collected is used for the benefit of those people.Lawson Naidoo, Executive secretary - Cosac
