Behind the Politics: She fights her battles silently
EWN reporter Mia Lindeque shares more on the first instalment of 'Behind the Politics: She Fights Her Battles Silently'.

This Women's Month Eyewitness News reporter Mia Lindeque delves into the lives of South Africa's most powerful women in politics and the challenges they have had to overcome over the years - personal stories which don't always make it to the fore.

In the first instalment, Lindeque sits down with Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, who reveals intimate details on her upbringing, how she took on the apartheid government and her past battle with cancer amid the Limpopo textbook saga.

She went for debilitating chemotherapy at the height of this textbook saga but at no stage did she actually use this as an excuse, we didn't know, it only emerged years later that this is what she battled.

Mia Lindeque, Reporter - EWN

We often see her as a very soft minister but she has got this courage of just never giving up...you can hear in this podcast. She even asked the president then, Jacob Zuma, to let her go because she wants to prepare for her death and he said: 'No, you are going to continue what you do.' That just speaks of a warrior, someone who silently continues to do what she has to do.
