A panel of feminists discuss their journey in feminism and unpack the language around it.

How do we ensure we teach feminism without excluding communities on the ground?

Eusebius McKaiser was joined by feminist activist Fatima Shabodien, social analyst and commentator Tessa Dooms and journalist Haji Mohamed Dawjee to dispel some of the conceptions around feminism.

The panel also discussed some of the key challenges to tackling patriarchy.

I think we need to think about synonyms, we need to think about what feminism actually means and how other people can relate to it, who don't have access to the academia or the literature... we need to think of words like - is feminism courage? Adaptation? Empathy?

Haji Mohamed Dawjee, journalist

The academic conversation about strands of feminism is interesting and it's good but it is actually what that means in real life that I am more interested in. So for me a key part of my feminism is about freedom and informed choice.

Tessa Dooms, social analyst

One of the first things we have to do is recognise the spectrum of feminisms.

Fatima Shabodien, feminist activist
