Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula launches Prasa war room

Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula has launched the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) war room.

The initiative is aimed at addressing long-standing passenger safety issues that have plagued commuter trains for years. Mbalula says the war room will focus on three pillars, including service delivery.

The war room will monitor trains, check for arrival times and address infrastructure problems at Prasa.

John Maytham speaks to #UniteBehind media and communications officer Matthew Hirsch.

It does sound serious. We find the term slightly problematic.

Matthew Hirsch, Media and communications officer - #UniteBehind

We welcome any initiative to have greater safety on trains and we have been calling for this since 2017. We haven't had a chance to see the full effects of this war room.

Matthew Hirsch, Media and communications officer - #UniteBehind

We have been calling for more than a year for a commuter service safety plan. We feel that this is urgent.
