Group CEO Dr Nkosinathi Sishi says the Gauteng Nerve Centre will ensure the state-owned entity is effective and efficient.

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) group CEO Dr Nkosinathi Sishi says the Gauteng Nerve Centre (GNC) is set to assist in dealing with organisational challenges at the state-owned entity.

Prasa last Thursday, launched a state-of-the-art facility in Germiston which is set to improve train services for all commuters.

RELATED: 'A pragmatic approach is needed to fix the Prasa crisis'

The new facility loosely termed 'the war room' is set to address train commuter problems which resulted in passengers losing faith in the state-owned entity.

The war room is tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the agency's services are effective and efficient.

Bongani Bingwa chats to the group CEO about the new facility and Daily Maverick deputy editor Sikonathi Mantshantsha.

The new war room is a single point at which all operational and organisational challenges are to be dealt with, with a collective of experts and technicians located in all our regions.

Dr Nkosinathi Sishi, Group CEO - Prasa

It will be digitally connected to ensure speedy implementation, he adds.

He says the war room has clear time frames with specific key areas identified and targeted - service recovery, reliability, availability of rolling stops, and trains being on time.

Mantshantsha says Sishi's explanation on why Prasa needs a war room is not clear.

His explanation is as clear as mud, why would you need a new structure for your own organisation to report to you?

Sikonathi Mantshantsha, Deputy editor - Daily Maverick
