According to Eyewitness News reporter Theto Mahlakoana, the union says legislation and amendments were targeting them.

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) has welcomed the labour minister’s calls for the inclusion of workers’ organisations that are currently excluded from the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac).

Previously, Amcu and other organisations including the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa were sidelined from Nedlac because of the forum’s protocols.

Joanne Joseph speaks to Eyewitness News reporter Theto Mahlakoana on the issue.

One of the issues that Amcu has is the fact that you have had all these amendments to the Labour Relations Act and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act effected at Nedlac where they do not have a seat.

Theto Mahlakoana, Reporter - Eyewitness News

Amcu is saying they feel like they are being singled out and that in fact these legislations and amendments are targeting them because we do know they are synonymous with prolonged strikes.
