Mkhwebane 'disappointed' over latest legal loss related to Estina report

The Public Protector has been dealt another legal and financial blow as the high court has ruled she must pick up a portion of the costs related to an appeal against her Estina Dairy Farm report.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (Casac) applied to the court to have the report reviewed and set aside.

While the office of the Public Protector is liable for 85% of the legal costs, Mhkwebane is personally liable for 7.5%.

She'll have to cough up out of her own pocket...

The ruling comes less than a month after the Constitutional Court upheld a personal costs order against Mkhwebane in respect of her 'flawed' Absa/Bankorp bailout investigation.

We're now well over R1 -million rand I'm sure that the PP is liable for.

The judge finding she didn't live up to her obligations, leads us to question, does she understand her mandate as Public Protector?

Speaking to Clement Manyatela on the XG Show, spokesperson Oupa Segwale said the Public Protector was 'disappointed' by Thursday's ruling.

In her view, the court should have proven that she acted fraudulently and that she acted recklessly and that there was gross dishonesty on her part and these are the standards that ought to be met.

Meanwhile, a group calling itself Concerned South Africans' is planning a march to the Public Protector's offices where they promise not to leave until 'she leaves office'.

Instead of her focussing on the things that benefit society, she's busy entertaining the political factions.
