Carrol Boyes dies
The designer and businesswoman passed away on Wednesday night following a brief illness, her company confirmed.

Social media was filled with tributes to South African design icon Carrol Boyes on Thursday following the news of her death.

The 63-year-old passed away on Wednesday following a short illness.

Boyes was the founder, creator and CEO of The Carrol Boyes retailer and her eye-catching work was sold in more than 30 countries throughout the world.

Journalist Charlea Grey interviewed Boyes in May and says the news of her death came as a shock.

She had a reputation for being a very private person, so I'm not surprised she kept quiet about her illness.

Charlea Grey, Journalist - Huisgenoot

Grey says knowing Boyes private nature she was surprised when the designer agreed to the interview.

I was quite nervous, but before the interview, her assistant told me that Carrol was actually nervous and I thought how can this be, she's THE Carrol Boyes!

Charlea Grey, Journalist - Huisgenoot
