Social media was filled with tributes to South African design icon Carrol Boyes on Thursday following the news of her death.
The 63-year-old passed away on Wednesday following a short illness.
Boyes was the founder, creator and CEO of The Carrol Boyes retailer and her eye-catching work was sold in more than 30 countries throughout the world.
Journalist Charlea Grey interviewed Boyes in May and says the news of her death came as a shock.
She had a reputation for being a very private person, so I'm not surprised she kept quiet about her illness.— Charlea Grey, Journalist - Huisgenoot
Grey says knowing Boyes private nature she was surprised when the designer agreed to the interview.
I was quite nervous, but before the interview, her assistant told me that Carrol was actually nervous and I thought how can this be, she's THE Carrol Boyes!— Charlea Grey, Journalist - Huisgenoot
My "Indigo girl" cup by #CarrolBoyes is my daily go-to. I got it as a gift and have my coffee from it exclusively. And the art on it is so "me". May Carrol's soul rest in peace, and we thank her for her contribution to our homes and daily comforts❤ pic.twitter.com/5k97QT34hJ— Vuyo Mkize (@vonchy_19) August 15, 2019
