The Finance and Economic Opportunities MEC says they plan to scale-up the informal sector and grow small manufacturing business.

Western Cape MEC of finance and economic opportunities David Maynier says if more people were employed it would go a long way in eliminating crime in the province.

Speaking to Kieno Kammies, Maynier says they are looking at scaling-up the informal sector and growing small manufacturing business.

Plans to roll out programmes across the province are underway, he adds.

Our priority is to focus on growing the economy and creating jobs at a macro level.

David Maynier, Western Cape MEC - Finance and Economic Opportunities

David Maynier, Western Cape MEC - Finance and Economic Opportunities

Maynier says he also focusing on the coastal communities.

What I think is going to be one of the big challenges, particularly in the coastal communities, there is so much potential looked up in a number of small harbours. There are some incredible assets that can be developed in small waterfronts and coffee shops.

David Maynier, Western Cape MEC - Finance and Economic Opportunities

Yet what we find is that national government cling on to small harbours but with no real incentives or commitment to develop those harbours.
